U.S. Congressman Hulshof and Chief Justice Michael Wolff of the Supreme Court of Missouri to be Featured Speakers for Upcoming Missouri Bar Civics Program

Association leaders from across the state have been invited by Missouri Bar President C. Ronald Baird to attend a civics program in Columbia on Monday, July 23. The leaders will hear about the rule of law and its significance to our way of life from Congressman Hulshof and Chief Justice Wolff. The program is one of five pilot programs being held across the United States to provide business and association leaders with a fresh perspective on the rule of law. At the American Bar Association Annual Meeting in August, Missouri’s pilot program will be presented as a model for other states to follow.

By presenting programs on the rule of law, the organized bar hopes to promote a better understanding and appreciation of the core principles of our Constitution. Writing to invitees, Missouri Bar President Baird noted: “The civic life of Missourians can be so much more meaningful than periodically casting ballots in an election or reading the editorial page. The civic discussions we hold can be so much more informative than who is ahead of whom in the polls this week. We can raise the level of political discussion.”

This will be The Missouri Bar’s second major civic education forum this year. It follows on the heels of the state’s first Civic Education Summit, which the bar held last month.
