Committee Wants Comments on Proposed Changes to Lawyer Advertising Rule
The Missouri Bar Special Committee on Lawyer Advertising is soliciting input from the bar on a number of possible changes to the Rules of Professional Conduct related to lawyer advertising, as well as the possibility of establishing a Bar Committee to monitor compliance with the advertising rules. The committee wants to hear comments from members of the bar before a final recommendation is developed and submitted to the Board of Governors for review, consideration and possible action.

The committee endorsed all of the changes suggested in the draft rules except the committee did not take a position for or against the suggested revision to Rule 4-7.2(j). Comments will be accepted until October 15.

Learn more about the advertising rule changes - listen to the soundbyte interview with Mark Levison, chair of the Special Committee on Lawyer Advertising.

Announcing New Missouri Bar Program Ready to Tackle Disputes Between Lawyers
The Lawyer-to-Lawyer Dispute Resolution Committee announces that volunteer facilitators have been appointed and have completed an orientation to assist with resolving disputes between lawyers. As of June 1, 2008, the program began accepting complaints for resolution. Lawyer to lawyer disputes damage the legal profession and can clients unnecessary anxiety, expense and delay solely as a result of personal issues arising between them. These disputes involve adversarial law firm or office sharing break ups, fee disputes between co-counsel, perceived or actual overzealous representation, or professional or personal disrespect or discourtesy. This new program helps resolve these issues through facilitation and binding arbitration in a private, confidential setting. For more details, click here.
