Look west on Highway 54 to Jefferson City and you will see the Division of Workers' Compensation spotlight on Nancy Oviedo, an Injury Processing Technician with the Missouri Division of Workers' Compensation. For ten years, Nancy has processed claim forms and talked with adjusters and attorneys by telephone. She was asked to translate a division brochure into Spanish because she speaks the language. The rest is history. Since that time, Nancy has volunteered to interpret workers' compensation inquiries from Spanish speaking callers and provide public information to callers who cannot speak English. She enjoys all aspects of her work, including these special assignments.
She translated Spanish for a group of twenty doctors in California for twenty-two years before moving to Missouri. The ocean is one of her favorite places to visit in California. Originally from Cuernava, Morelos Mexico, Nancy grew up in the City of Eternal Spring. The city earned the name because of the beautiful weather found in the area year round. Nancy enjoyed growing up in Mexico. She misses friends she left behind both in Mexico and California.
Nancy likes living in the City of Jefferson because it is so clean. But she is not fond of the Midwest humidity or tornadoes. When not processing injury claims, she enjoys walking and spending time with her mother, sister and brother-in-law.
Division Director Patricia “Pat” Secrest, shared the following about Nancy:
“Nancy has processed injury reports for the division since 1996. In addition to her assigned work, she provides information about workers' compensation to Spanish speaking callers. Her work enables parties to better understand their rights and responsibilities under the workers' compensation law in Missouri. This is a valuable contribution to the division, employees, employers and the entire workers' compensation community.”
Today we shine the spotlight on Nancy Oviedo and recognize the valuable contributions she makes to the Division of Workers' Compensation.
